Frequently asked questions

Learn more about Direct Pediatric Care

What is Direct Pediatric Care?

The Direct Pediatric Care or DPC Model mimics old-fashioned medicine before we depended on insurance companies to drive our family medical decisions. DPC incorporates modern communication via text, email, & video for 24/7 access to YOUR doctor. A simple monthly membership cost helps your family have enhanced access to their doctor & helps your pediatrician spend time with families, rather than the insurance company.

Is this concierge medicine?

Not exactly. While the two models are similar, they are not synonymous. Generally, in a concierge practice, the patient typically pays a higher retainer fee plus other health insurance plan obligations (e.g., co-pays or out-of-pocket expenses,) and the practice continues to bill the patient's insurance carrier.

Do you take Medicaid?

At On-call Mama Doc we can see patients enrolled with medicaid as their only coverage. However, eligible patients must sign a private pay agreement that states they will pay for services directly and not submit bills to medicaid for reimbursement.

Is this a Health Insurance?

No, On-call Mama Doc Pediatrics is not a health insurance.

Do I need insurance to join?

No, we do not take insurance or bill insurance. All services are covered by membership fees.

Do I still need insurance?

Health insurance coverage is strongly encourage in the event your child has a catastrophic event that will need hospital or emergency room care. We suggest a PPO plan that allows us to coordinate your care best and will not need referrals for specialist.  Please know that HMO plans may refuse to pay for any services or prescriptions not ordered by an in-network physician.
